Area of research expertise: Bioinformatics; genomics; genetics; data linkage; information technology; data management.

Dr Carter completed a PhD in Bioinformatics at Murdoch University in 2004, and took up the position of Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the WA Institute for Medical Research (2004-7). During this time he was awarded an ARC Postdoctoral Fellowship and a NHMRC Project grant to further into developing novel bioinformatics approaches to solving research problems in genomics, data linkage and data visualisation.

In 2008 he was appointed to the role of Senior Bioinformatics Fellow at the Telethon Kids Institute, where he is taking a leading role in the development of a programme of bioinformatics research. This role includes collaborating widely across all research groups at the Institute, developing and maintaining bioinformatics resources, and developing a culture of data management expertise.
