PLAYCE 2 School is a longitudinal study using validated movement behaviour and outcome measures to provide critical information about the causal relationships between young children’s movement behaviours and their health and development.

This unique and innovative study is the largest in Australia to longitudinally track the interaction between early movement behaviours and their relationship with health and development outcomes in young children.

This project benchmarks children’s movement behaviours across childhood enabling monitoring of these behaviours and their impact on child health and developmental indicators over time.

It will identify key windows for interventions targeting young children’s movement behaviours to ensure they have the best chance of a healthy future.

PLAYCE 2 School research questions:

  1.  What is the optimal dose and combination of movement behaviours to promote healthy weight status, social-emotional and motor development in young children?
  2. How do early movement behaviours track across different behaviour settings (early childhood education and care, school and home), in particular as children transition to full time school?
  3. How does the pattern and profile of movement behaviours across childhood relate to and inform National Movement Guidelines for children?
