Research Assistant Phylogica
The Opportunity
The Telethon Kids Institute’s Drug Discovery Unit is working at the cutting-edge of peptide-based drug discovery. The research of the unit is funded via a commercial entity named “Phylogica”, which is the first spin-off company out of the Telethon Kids Institute.
Phylogica is committed to solving one of most challenging problems in biology: we seek to deliver therapeutic molecules, both biologics and nucleic acids, into diseased cells. The group has entered into partnerships with 4 of the world’s top 10 pharmaceutical companies and is collaborating with leading academic researchers from around the world. We invest in the best and brightest scientists and seek to create an environment of true and free-flowing collaboration.
The Role
We are now seeking a BSc (Hons) level Molecular Biologist with expertise in mammalian tissue culture, DNA cloning and assay development, to join our Screening and Discovery group. Our ideal candidate is highly motivated, adept and ambitious with strong analytical and conceptualisation skills. Further, the candidate must be able to work productively in a dynamic and interdisciplinary team setting, and be willing to adapt to ongoing research and corporate needs.
Experience
Applicants must demonstrate solid experience in molecular biology, microbiology and tissue culture. Additional demonstrated skills with flow cytometry, Westerns, ELISAs, peptide handling, protein purification as well as experience in assay automation would be advantageous.
This is a full-time fixed-term position for 12 months with a strong prospect of continuation.
The successful candidate will be asked to provide a satisfactory National Police Check prior to commencement.
